Mundane

And at that time, in the pale dusky winter evening, somebody asked him – What did he want?
What did he really really want?!

He couldn’t say anything, but his eyes hid the discord of his cataclysmic thoughts.

Nothing has changed since he left home, people remember him not by name anymore rather just as a young lad, who disappeared a few years back. The streets are very much the same, new children keep popping up in the backyard, old outdoor games are still played and the monotonic siren of the train still hovers in the background. It was the same place, which he called home. The yearning inside him to come stay with his mother never subsided, the warmth of the winter blanket and the morning tea is something which he could never forget. It’s been six long years, sin
ce he saw all the four seasons in his home town, a short time compared to what most of the other lads endure, but long for him nevertheless. But like the age old clichés of the modern times, coming home was not the answer.

But he was bored of the big city. It didn’t give him the promised wings, rather a shroud of constant humiliation covered him all the time. Indeed some timeless lessons were learnt, and reality presented itself in all the humbling colours, but what troubled him most was not that he failed at everything he tried, rather the numbness with which he accepted everything. Fear and anxiety were the new constants, they made him choose things he didn’t want and pursue things he wasn’t interested. He tried to form relations, so he listened to everyone, but didn’t find a single listener. Apparently, he figured out that everybody is favourite of themselves. He socialised, mingled and shared his thoughts with people around him, but it didn't even matter for everyone seemed so happy and pre-occupied among themselves.

Tired, frustrated and unsatisfied, he decides to go back home, may be to explore his origins again or may be in the hope that he will know his parents better. Unsure of the circumstances that lie ahead, he thought to take a leap of faith and force a change in this monotonic cycle. Now,a new chapter with old faces await him, the walk in the sunset is still far away, but it stills feels good to go home, to rest for a while, to chat with his mother and to work with his father. Maybe, it’s not the best of the choices to make, some might even say that he’ll regret it later, but to hell with it, he is the captain and this is his life-ship. Let him sail away far...., faraway with the wind!
