The Kelly road trip essay

The year 2013 as such is not really going great and still one week is left to complete it. So lets share some of the good things i have written for a college, in which unfortunately i can't apply because i will be missing the deadlines.

Anyway, so here goes the question.

Suppose you had to choose three people—people alive now or people from another era—to travel with you on a cross-country automobile trip. Who would you choose and why? What would you hope to learn from them? (Think carefully about the company you want on those long stretches through Nebraska or Kansas.)

“Let the future tell the truth, and evaluate each one according to his work and accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I have really worked, is mine”.

The above line inspires me and is said by one of the greatest inventors of 19th century – Nikola Tesla and he would be the first person, I would pick for taking with me to a cross country road trip. Mr. Tesla was a showman and it would be fascinating to learn from him the art of observation. His work and experiments revolutionized the technology world and fascinates the modern engineers till date.  Complimenting his style of working and showmanship is Elon Musk, the modern day inventor and co-founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla motors and he would be second person for the road trip. Mr. Musk has gone on to become one of the most forward looking entrepreneurs of the decade and I would like to learn from his risk taking abilities and persuasive skills.  Lastly, I would like to take future myself from circa 2040. Although, I would like to ask several questions to him, but the highlights would be to know answers to questions like “how is Life and how was the Kelly experience?”

Along the journey, I would like to see the awe, the modern technologies like smartphones and internet generate in Mr. Tesla. It would be intriguing to know, how he imagined the future and how it has actually turned out to be. As a matter of fact, the best form of learning would be from the questions that he asks us about the contemporary world! Will he be disappointed? Or will he be appreciative of the human accomplishments? The answers might force us to contemplate deeper on our lives. Meanwhile, to keep us engaged in the trip, I would ask Mr. Musk about his motivation and how he could invest in technologies that are far sighted and with no certain results. The Risks he took and the ideas he has published have the potential to change the world and gives an insight into his prodigal mind. The animated scenario, in which Mr. Tesla might wonder about the Mr. Musk’s company “Tesla Motors” and Mr. Musk’s chance to know, whether his ventures turned out to be successful by asking a future man from 2040 would be engaging and extremely informative as well.

Overall, the road trip would prove to be a life changing event. I would come to understanding the fact that future is unpredictable, and our actions might not result in desired effects, but to work passionately on a dream might definitely create a dent in the world. A Man is remembered by his work and actions as in the case of Mr. Tesla. Although he died lonely having spent his last days in recluse, but it was his work that brought him such reverence and admiration. Learning to have self-belief, would be the greatest learning I could have by meeting Mr. Musk and to see my future self doing good and in sound health would be self-assuring, that everything turned out well and my experiments with life were not that bad after-all.
